Holds a degree from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques of Bordeaux (1992) and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Bordeaux-Montesquieu (2002). Former research fellow at the Center for Mexican and Central American Studies (CEMCA, French Embassy in Mexico City, 1995-1996 and 1998-1999) and visiting researcher at the Centre for Research and Superior Studies on Social Anthropology (CIESAS) in Oaxaca (1997). Joined CERI in 2004. Vice-president of the Observatoire Politique de l’Amérique latine et des Caraïbes (OPALC) and member of the editorial boards of Critique internationale, Problèmes d’Amérique latine and Latin American Research Review. Leader of the CERI Transversal Project “Beliefs and Practices of Democracy” and of the research group on “Ethnography of the State: Socio-anthropological Approaches to the State and Citizenship” (with Paola Lopez).
His research focuses on the processes of political change in Latin America, with a special interest in their implications on participatory practices and the redefinition of the concept of citizenship.
