| STATUS
CERI is the largest of the nine Sciences Po research centers. Its partnership with the CNRS was first established in 1967. Since 2002, its legal status has been that of a “joint research unit” (« Unité Mixte de Recherche ») under the control of Sciences Po and the CNRS. CERI’s funding comes from three sources: The largest portion comes from Sciences Po which covers 2/3 of personnel costs and the rental of premises; the contribution of the CNRS covers the remaining personnel costs and a portion of the running costs; other resources include subsidies and research contracts from the French government (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense…), the European Commission, firms, foundations and other grant-making bodies. |
Governance
CERI’s representative and consultative body, the « Conseil d’unité », is composed of 10 elected members drawn from the research and administrative staff and 6 members appointed by the center’s director. The council participates in selecting the focus of research and is consulted about the budget. The director of CERI is appointed for a 4 year term, renewable twice, by the president of Sciences Po following a preliminary vote by the council. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the CNRS. |
| Faculty and staff
In 2010, CERI had 44 statutory researchers and 10 tenured university professors and lecturers. The administrative team is organized by activity domains: library, finance, logistics and human resources, development and outreach, publications, electronic resources. Approximately 2/3 of CERI researchers and staff are employees of Sciences Po; 1/3 are employed by the CNRS and the Ministry of Education.

Associated scholars and fellows
Associated scholars are researchers whose main institutional affiliation is with another academic research centre, either French or foreign. Associated fellows are non-academic international relations experts or professionals. Applications are received once a year and are examined by CERI council.

Visiting fellows
CERI does not provide funding for international visiting fellowships, but is able to offer office space and the possibility to join in our research activities. Candidates who have already secured their funding (e.g. under Sciences Po faculty exchange agreements, EU mobility programs, sabbaticals…) are kindly requested to apply at the earliest convenience by following the visiting fellowships procedure |
PhD candidates
PhD students enrolled by the Sciences Po Doctoral School are affiliated with CERI and participate in its various research projects, seminars, publications and scientific events. They have access to some 30 workstations in a recently refurbished office space. CERI also welcomes international PhD candidates wishing to spend a limited period of time doing a part of their dissertation research at CERI. The conditions are similar to those applying to visiting fellows. |
Post-docs
The same conditions also pertain to post-docs of French or other nationalities. |
Internships
Depending on our needs and the available working space, CERI offers a limited number of short-term internships (as research or administrative assistants) providing work experience opportunities to university students.
