CERI is the first French academic center for international studies and analysis of comparative politics. Founded in 1952, CERI is the oldest research center of Sciences Po.

Activities
CERI combines several activities: academic research, publications, meetings, expertise

- Research at CERI is structured around three main axis : comparative politics, international relations and international political economy. Such a plurality allows the examination of interaction between international processes and evolutions of societies. Be they individual or collective, research activities are mostly made of fieldwork in various countries and regions of the planet. They are nourished by much collaboration with partner centers or networks, in France and abroad.

- In collaboration with publishers in France (Autrement, Fayard and Karthala), the United Kingdom (Hurst and Routledge) and the USA (Palgrave-Macmillan), CERI manages several book series. CERI hosts the editorial office of the two academic quarterly journals Critique Internationale (published by Presses de Sciences Po) and International Political Sociology (one of the International Studies Association’s journals, published by Wiley-Blackwell). Original papers are also published in various publications and series, available either online or in print.

- Dissemination of CERI works goes beyond the academic world. In addition to research seminars stricto sensu, CERI organizes conferences, debates and book launches that are open to a wide public. These gatherings offer the opportunity to discuss with practitioners, journalists and other specialists of area studies.
This sharing of scientific knowledge is also visible through the various partnerships with public institutions, associations, companies and media. Researchers offer their expertise through studies, conferences or interviews.

Staff

Ceri research staff counts 44 permanent research fellows and 8 senior teaching fellows. A system of associate membership allows CERI to welcome for a minimum period of two years researchers from other universities. Most of the center’s researchers teach at Sciences Po or at other university-type institutions such as INALCO, EHESS or the Collège d’Europe in Bruges.

CERI includes PhD students in its research activity. The center also welcomes post-docs and visiting scholars from worldwide.

The administrative staff is organized into poles: finance, logistics and human resources, communication, publication, documentation, and Web.

Christian Lequesne, Senior research fellow at Sciences Po is director of CERI since January 2009. Former directors of CERI since its creation are Jean-Baptiste Duroselle and Jean Meyriat, Guy Hermet, Jean-Luc Domenach, Jean-François Leguil-Bayart, and Christophe Jaffrelot.

Statut

CERI has the status of « Unité Mixte de Recherche Sciences Po – CNRS ». The center employs staff from the public sector (CNRS, Ministry of Education…) and with private contracts (Sciences Po). Sciences Po contributes to most of the budget, with additional grant by CNRS. Other contributors are French public agencies (ministry of Foreign Affairs, of Defense…), European Commission, private companies, French and international foundations.
